Start and end your shift

Taking over and handing over a post are the two key moments of a guard's day. Hamilton Security guides you through each step — instructions, checklist, open events — and records everything in the duty log automatically.

Start your shift

  1. Open Hamilton Security.

  2. In the left menu, click "Start of shift". (On sites using the rapid mode, the menu shows "Agent entry/exit" instead, for a shortened version.)

  3. Follow the guided sequence of windows:

    • Shift period: if your site works with shift periods (vacations) and none is open, you are asked "Do you want to open a vacation?". Confirm, then pick your period in the list — day, time slot, start and end — and click Validate.

    • Start of shift event: an event window opens pre-filled for the start of shift. Complete it and validate — the takeover is recorded in the duty log.

    • Agents on duty: on stationary posts, select the agents present with you.

    • Instruction sheets: the permanent instructions are displayed — read them before continuing.

    • Temporary instructions: the instructions currently in force are displayed next.

    • Shift-start checklist: complete the checklist by ticking each controlled line (see "Complete checklists").

    • Open events: the list of events left open by the previous shift appears, so you take over with full knowledge.

Once the sequence finishes, you are on duty and every action you record is stamped with your name.

End your shift

  1. In the left menu, click "End of shift" — it replaces "Start of shift" while you are on duty. (Rapid mode: "Agent entry/exit".)

  2. An end-of-shift event window opens: summarize the handover and validate. The event is recorded in the duty log.

  3. If your site works with shift periods, close the vacation when prompted.

Good to know

  • Shift starts and ends are duty log entries: they can be searched with the "Start of shift" and "End of shift" type filters (see "Keep the duty log").

  • The exact sequence of windows depends on your site's configuration — some steps (vacations, agent selection, checklist) only appear when enabled.

  • To see who is currently on duty, use "Agents on site" — see "Send personal messages and see agents on site".
